Bad Morning

March 2nd, 2007 | by Todd W |

So I’m rounding the corner this morning on the S-curve in my neighborhood when I notice my car is going sideways.

“This isn’t good,” I mutter.

At a stately slide of ten miles per hour, I watch a couple of mailboxes and two newspaper boxes vanish under the passenger side as I execute a perfect reverse T-bone, applying my car sideways to the aforementioned obstacles.

Bummer.

The car is just a beater Mazda MPV, so I’m not so much worried about the damage there (minimal, really), but I’ve done quite a number on the mailboxes.  The posts were sheared off at ground level, and the metal stakes of the newspaper boxes are bent completely over.

So I spent a few minutes knocking on doors, writing down my contact information, and pledging my resources to correcting this unfortunate error.

Great start to the weekend.

And no, I was NOT blogging at the time of the incident!

    I want to see pics!

    Or poorly pixilated cell-phone vids!

Must be the week. Thursday morning I was going to work on 8th street. Wet, but clear, and noticed a spun out 4wheel drive suburban about 10feet off the side of the road ahead of me. Strange I though - wonder why they spun out as the road, while wet, was not icy.

Then I looked back down at the road ahead of me and noticed about 2-3 inches of slushy ice that had drifted/blown across the intersection ahead of me last night (lots of heavy winds last night).

I started to brake down but it was too late. I hit the slush about 40 mph and ended up off the road also. Fortunately the car was OK - a kind neighbor came by and pulled us both out. The driver of the other car hit the patch iwith no warning at about 60mph she said and went about 50 yards farther then me and 10feet further off the road. Amazing what 20mph differance can make. Her front bumper was gone - but she was also able to drive away.

Quite a mess out here this last week.

    Chris
