Thick and Rich

Take many layers of thick irony and slather it with gooey Jew-hating logic.
You get a special treat of calorie rich insanity.
The ruins of two large synagogues in evacuated Jewish communities of the Gaza Strip have been transformed into military bases used by Palestinian Arab groups to fire rockets at Israeli cities, according to a senior [...]

need power?

How cool is this? Ever get stuck without a battery in a pinch? Digging for a battery or two while the others are recharging? Coming soon in cell phone, laptop, and 9 volt configuration.
Certainly not a replacement for actual rechargeable batteries, but I can certainly see the utility of them.  A spare [...]

bargain acquisitions

I spent some time today at the local Barnes and Noble and grabbed a few items from the bargain bin. Occasionally I find some really good deals. Anyone know anything about these books?

From the Amazon page -
In the distant future, a starfaring Neanderthal woman sits on a dock on the planet No-Moon, [...]

audio blogging

Right now I’m sitting in my van driving north on Sprinkle Road about to get on Interstate 94 to visit my parents.  I’m taking the girls to visit the grandparents and to give Diane a break for awhile.  The really interesting thing about this entry is I’m not actually typing it.
I picked [...]

link added and interesting writing entry

I added a link to John Ringo’s site.  If you haven’t read any of Ringo’s Human-Posleen war series, you’re missing a fun ride.
Also, John Scalzi, of Old Man’s War fame, has a fascinating post on the finances of writing.   Be sure to check out his follow-up posts as well.

Greasemonkey and Gmail

If you are using Firefox and Gmail, I recommend checking out Greasemonkey (via Lifehacker).  There’s a short video there showing the power of the Greasemonkey in managing and organizing Gmail.  I’ve installed the various scripts and immediately became a convert.
While you’re there, don’t miss the link for AutoHotKey scripting.

Busy

I’m going to be busy the next two days, participating in an audit from a Russian regulatory body. The audit language is in Russian, so it have been interesting to listen to the translators going back and forth. Maybe some posting later.

A New Venture

Keep an eye on AudioMonk.  Right now it is a basic placeholder website, but coming soon, I’ll be launching the full-fledged business with a new, polished site.  Exciting times.

Space Cadet – A Review

The reviews of the Heinlein juveniles continue. As I look back at these books, the impact they had on my life becomes undeniable. They’re like that old. warm blanket, or that quiet, safe place you might have had as a kid. Certainly nostalgia comes back with a lot of power as I [...]

A Conversation With An Iranian-American

Monday, while taking a coffee break in the afternoon, I was joined by a colleague (and someone I consider a friend) who happened to be an Iranian-American.  I don’t have permission to use his name, so he will remain anonymous here.
My friend has had an interesting life.  He was in Iran during the revolution, and [...]

buy stuff from me

I’ve opened my own store through Zlio. You can find it here (RSS feed is here). I’ll be ’selling’ stuff that I review and find worthwhile, so if anything strikes your fancy, buy through the store. I think I’m looking at a 4-5% kickback on transactions, so maybe it’ll be enough to [...]

Tunnel In The Sky – A Review

The Wiley Library Review continues. Considering I started with a Heinlein Juvenile, I’ll just keep going with all twelve before we move on to something else.
Heinlein has been tagged, unfairly, as a ‘fascist’ by the self-declared enlightened who stand opposed to any perception that some people might be more capable than others. [...]

Computer Tips

Frequently, I’m surprised when I have a chance to watch other people using their computers. I mostly run across Windows users, so you Mac people sit down for a few minutes.
By no means am I a useability expert, but I thought I’d pass along some tips that seem to make my life easier.
The Quick [...]

New Layout

I think this is probably the tenth or more format change on the blog.  I can’t help myself.  I enjoy tweaking.
This layout was lifted from Dean Robinson, by way of a Lifehacker post on high quality Wordpress themes.  This one is called Redoable, based on the K2 theme.
A particular feature that attracted me to this [...]

Inexplicably Famous Woman Dies

Anna Nicole Smith is dead.  If you don’t already know that, you can’t possibly be reading this blog.  At this point, I think Osama knows about it up in his cave.
Certainly I am sensitive to the fact that a relatively young woman led an appallingly tragic life and died in early reports suggest is puddle [...]

Have Spacesuit, Will Travel – A Review

The first entry in the Wiley Library review is, fittingly, the first book I recall buying on my own (but I doubt I bought it with my own money).  I certainly picked it out, and I think it was the first book I ever read outside of the traditional children’s fare presented in bookstores.
The Ballentine [...]

This Is Not The Time

The single issue people are reacting to Giuliani the way I expected.  They’re pouting.
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said Monday if Rudy Giuliani wins the GOP presidential nomination Democrats will take back the White House in 2008.
“If by some chance Giuliani were to gain the Republican nomination it would set up a [...]

IMified

I’m posting this through a new service called IMified. This lets you access a number of applications through your instant messenger client. Pretty cool. Check it out at http://www.imified.com
