Steve Yzerman

January 3rd, 2007 | by Todd W |

There’s nothing wrong with honoring a skilled enemy.

If you don’t already know it, I make a hobby out of hating the Red Wings. On one hand, I’m happy to see Yzerman go, but as a hockey fan I have to acknowledge the game will miss him tremendously.

Enjoy the retirement, Y.

I hate the Red Wings. I hate Stevie Y and his little smirk, how he somehow avoided the “dirty” tag while handing out untold number of cheap elbows, hooks and slashes. How everyone says “ooohhhh, he was the captain for 22 years… what a leader, what class!”. I hate it.

I wish he had played for the Leafs.

Recently, I find myself missing the raw emotion of hockey, such as that evident in Mark’s ‘comments’.
I’ve watched a couple ‘brawl’ vids on youtube, and it stirs me.
The vitriol that Mark spouts, however mistargeted, is a part of hockey, and it should remain.

Oh, and you should have heard the applause when Bob Probert was announced at the Yzerman ceremony!

    Crack-head Probert. I’m surprised he’s still alive.

Naahhhhh… I think my comments were misconstrued. I really like Yzerman. Always have. I was trying to be funny and sarcastic. He’s a class act and I meant it that I wished he would have played for the Leafs. I watched the retirement and was happy for him, he deserves it. He’s the last of a breed, hopefully not.

I understood what Mark was saying.

Mark has actually played, and therefore respects what it takes to SKATE and battle out there.
I get the sense that he can look past the uniform and respect a player for what he is….unlike certain other titular commentaters at this site.

If you mean your prematurely-retired-from-the-easiest-position-in-sports man, then yes, I am.
