Weekend Update

Well, I just finished watching Tiger Woods scare the hell out of every professional golfer in the PGA.  If you aren’t flat-footed amazed at his talent, you must not understand how he just disassembled the entire field at the PGA as if they were nothing but Legos in his playroom.

1997 Masters – won by 12 strokes

1999 PGA – won by 1 stroke

2000 US Open – won by 15 strokes

2000 British Open – won by 8 strokes

2000 PGA – won in playoff

2001 Masters – won by 2 strokes

2002 Masters – won by 3 strokes

2002 US Open – won by 3 strokes

2005 Masters – won in playoff

2005 British Open – won by 5 strokes

2006 British Open – won by 2 strokes

2006 PGA – won by 5 strokes

And he’s 30 years old.  In a game where most players don’t really hit their prime until the early thirties.

Another thing: if the word Buick appears in the tournament, forget it.

1999 Buick Invitational – won by 2 strokes

2002 Buick Open – won by 4 strokes

2003 Buick Invitational – won by 4 strokes

2005 Buick Invitational – won by 5 strokes

2006 Buick Invitational – won in playoff

2006 Buick Open – won by 3 strokes

The man has a passion for Buicks, and since they are a sponsor, it seems to work out nicely.

In all seriousness, people will look back at the Woods era the way avid golfers think of Bobby Jones today.  If you are a golf fan, you’re witnessing something remarkable.

But enough of Golf.

I didn’t get to post much last week.  Things were exceptionally busy around here, and I’m behind on a lot of partial posts.  The Israeli situation and some comments both in the blog and in casual conversation sparked a longish post, and I need to get that done early this week.  I also received a link from a reader in the UK (thanks Paul) that prompted some other thoughts that haven’t been documented yet.  I should get more things online this week, so please stop back.

The weekend didn’t see me writing much either.  Saturday was spent playing ASL with Jeff DeYoung in Grand Rapids in a night scenario (AAR to come on that one, with an amazing sequence of die rolls that can only occur when I’m involved in a game).  The remainder of Saturday was spent taking the girls to their first movie (Cars, from Pixar).  In between the two, I recorded the Guadalcanal AAR while sitting in my car outside of a coffee bar and using the free WiFi to upload it to the site.  So if you hear any strange audio artifacts in that AAR, know that I wasn’t in the best acoustical conditions.

Sunday has been about golf.  And mowing the lawn.  And laying on the living room floor while the girls do their best to conquer Mt. Dad.  All in all, a good day.

So, back to the world tomorrow, and we’ll get back to the Megalomania part of the blog.

Thanks for reading.
