While Islamic groups in Britain openly brag about how they are going to subdue the country by violent means or call for beheading those insulting Islam, Bryan Cork, 49, of Carlisle, Cumbria, in the Lake District, was sentenced to six months in jail for standing outside a mosque shouting, “Proud to be British,” and “Go back to where you came from.” One British court ruled that even use of the word “immigrant” as an insult could amount to proof of racial hostility.

Actually it was the hostilty, i.e. the physical assault, that was the evidence of hostility
The court was just trying to decide if the hostility was racially motivated as she derogated him as an ‘immigrant’ in conjunction with the physical attack. If she had called him an immigrant and then kissed him instead of hitting him, I don’t think anyone would be talking about hostility.
The motivation of assult is not relevant. Assault is assault, and should be punished per the law. This is why I am against ‘hate crimes’. You cannot criminalize people’s thoughts. Should they act on these thoughts…well, we already have laws against assault.
In this case, the judges are allowing that using the word ‘immigrant’ can be ruled as some sort of indicator of racial hatred.
It seems to me that immigrants are receiving additional preferences within the legal system. I believe the central idea of any legal system is equality before the law.
Beating up any human is a crime. To classify some humans as more protected than others is a big problem. We have the same issue in the States.
The point of the post was directed more at the Bryan Cork situation.
Thanks for the comment, Paul.
