Crash Explanation?
OK, this is strange. Sunday I get on the blog and see a bunch of garbage (no, NOT the content, but garbage formatting and characters). I tinker for awhile and I just can’t get a clean page render. When I go to log in to the admin section, I get the same thing – lots of bad formatting and partially rendered tags. No other site is giving me this, so I assume it is me.
So I upgrade WordPress, pour over my site code, check the CSS, and eventually find that the site source looks clean. Something is getting hosed in transmission. I check my wife’s laptop and my server downstairs, and get the same garbage.
Somewhat at a loss, I backup my data, completely wipe WordPress and reinstall from the ground up. Same error. So now I’m suspecting some strange crap in my database. Recently I had imported and categorized a couple of thousand posts from my own blog, so I suspect that something in there might be causing some strange error. Keep in mind I’m no expert here, so these seem to be logical guesses.
I pretty much spend the whole day on it and come up with nothing. The page looks like crap, and the admin section is nearly unusable.
Until this morning when I log in from work. Everything looks proper, there isn’t a format problem in sight (no pun intended) and the admin page works perfectly (even widgets are draggable).
So what’s up with that?? My own site can’t be read properly from my home? I checked all of my javascript permissions on the PCs and any security aspects of my router. I’m at a loss.
Rebuilding of the blog will be ongoing over the next couple of days…
