My New Ax
I’ve been using the ‘old’ style Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard for a couple of years now. I liked it so much, I bought two for home and managed to score one here at work. Life was good.
Until the discomfort set in yet again.
I’ve followed all of the ergo-recommendations: seat height, wrist angle, monitor height and so on. I’ve even had the safety department here come by and double check me. Nonetheless, over time, the dull ache started after a long day of work.
Recently, I discovered this at Best Buy. The moment I rested my hands on the keys, things seemed to be in the right place. It might be hard to tell in the picture, but the key slope is quite a bit different on this model. Imagine the wings of a WW II Corsair, sloping down from the fuselage before extending outward, and you’ll get the idea. This slope seems to place the keys in a better position, almost on a radius centered on my hands.
I hit up my boss, and when I returned from vacation, the keyboard was sitting in my cubicle. I’ve been using it for a couple of hours this morning and it feels so much better. The long term experience isn’t knowable yet, but the feel is so dramatically different, I’m expecting a good outcome.
Stay tuned.
