The Busses

Mayor Nagin –

“I need reinforcements,” he pleaded. “I need troops, man. I need 500 buses, man. …

I’ve done it all man, and I’ll tell you man, I keep hearing that it’s coming. This is coming, that is coming. And my answer to that today is BS, where is the beef? Because there is no beef in this city. ”

Nagin said, “Get every Greyhound bus in the country and get them moving.”

I was in Toledo on Sunday night, watching Katrina move in on TV, watching the mayor calling the mandatory evacuation. It was clear with more than twelve hours to go that this was a serious situation, and everyone was already talking about the poor and how to handle them during the crises.

And now we see pictures like this…

Busses

It is fashionable at the moment to decry the Federal response to the crises, but every disaster plan starts at the local level. So far I have been less than impressed with the New Orleans government.

  1. Give ‘em hell, Todd. Give ‘em hell.

  2. NO’s Mayor seems to be rather colloquial in his communications. I refer to his gratuitous use of the word “man.” He also seems to remember the famous Wendy’s commercial rather well. He just doesn’t sound Mayoral to me, but then again New Orleans was never much of a real city.

I say abandon it and relocate elsewhere. There are some towns in the Gulf states that are seeing a huge boom due to many businesses relocating away from areas that are doomed to flood. Bury the dead, then build New New Orleans somewhere else.
