Steve’s Hockey Corner

Eric Lindros is about to sign with Toronto. That would be a mistake for them, I think; a financial risk, based on potential for a career-ending head injury. Anything he signs is guaranteed money.

Toronto resigned defensemen Wade Belak and Aki Berg. Smart moves.

Pittsburgh traded for Jocelyn Thibault, a marginally successful keeper with a girly first name on an awful Blackhawks team. Good move.

Boston signed G Jordan Sigalet, of Bowling Green State University, Alma Mater of at least one reader.

Former Wings coach Dave Lewis has stayed with the organization as a scout. Demeaning? Perhaps with an organization of lower quality, but a pretty good gig with Detroit.

Recent transactions.

  1. Oddly enough, I like the Lindros move. I suspect that the organIzation will be smart enough to consider his health situation in the deal, especially now that the cap is on. Here is a guy with high level skill, playing at home with something to prove. Granted, he’s one step in the corner with Lemiuex away from drinking from a straw the rest of his life, but hey, if the price is right…

  2. Fortunately Cloud Lemyoo isn’t playing anymore.
    Scott Stevens, though….

Lindros gets a bit of a bad rap; his lack of success does have a lot to do with injuries. It is still hard to look past his refusal to play for the ‘lowly’ Nordiques.
