The Bertuzzi Issue

NOTE – This was posted by Steven Mayo.

I have decidedly mixed feelings on this. I suspect Bertuzzi did not intend to drive Moore’s face into the ice – he just didn’t expect to knock him unconscious with the first hit. When Moore went limp, Bertuzzi also lost his balance and fell on top of him. Of course this doesn’t excuse the despicable sucker punch from behind. Of course it doesn’t. I heartily believe that kind of garbage needs to be removed from the game. Hockey players are inherently Jerks, at least to a certain extent, so it comes with the territory.

Since the season for which he was scheduled to be suspended was lost, he should have to sit this season. Maybe not the whole season, but 20 games is not unreasonable. I think the NHL should be more liberal in their punishments, especially for violent incidents like this.

Player Changes

Chris Osgood resigned with Detroit. (St Louis)
- for $900,000 !! He earned about 4 million 4 years ago.

Toronto kept Tie Dumi.
- a no-brainer. (get it?!)

Toronto lost Brian Leetch to Boston
- Boston lost Gonchar and Martin Lapointe, though.

Kariya signed with Predators (Colorado)
- “Biggest transaction in this clubs history” That remains to be seen…

JR traded to LA. (Philly)
- Perfect fit.

Bobby Holik signed by Atlanta. (New Jersey)
- Veteran Leader. This team will have success.

Pittsburg signed Sergei Gonchar (Boston, long time with Wash) Pittsburg signed Mark Recchi Pittsburg drafted Sidney Crosby Pittsburg signed Ziggy Palffy (Los Angeles)
– This team suddenly looks exciting.

Teams with the greatest potential for improvement:
Pittsburg
Chicago – signed Khabibulan
Atlanta

  1. Bertuzzi should be suspended until Moore can play again (if ever, thanks to this worthless human being).
