Supreme Court Retirement Today?

Rumors swirling that on the last day of business for SCOTUS, a retirement will be announced, along with the Ten Commandments ruling (I’m betting the court rules they can’t be posted in public spaces, which will be ironic considering the things carved into the SCOTUS building. Stay tuned for the frenzy.

Happy Birthday!

Reagan Wiley, age 2 as of last Saturday. Behold the center of our universe. Well, almost the center. She shares it with Samantha, age 5 months. Two years old!

A Whole Slew of Abuse

The Strata-Sphere – Blog Archive – Government Taking Private Land Read up on a number of existing abuses. What are we going to get now that all restraint has been swept away?

More on the Kelo Case

OpinionJournal – Featured Article The Wall Street Journal has an editorial denouncing this horrible ruling. I’m not normally the doom and gloom type, but this case has broken the back of Private Property in this country. Why am I so convinced? 1. The eminent domain process, backed by the weight of this ruling, has just [...]

Ayn Rand

It seemed like a good time to revisit The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged, and in doing so I was inspired to cast about for some Ayn Rand quotes. This one seemed particularly apt today. [On three of the rules governing the mechanics of compromise] 1. In any conflict between two men (or two groups) who [...]

More on Private Property

My Way News More information… “The city has carefully formulated an economic development that it believes will provide appreciable benefits to the community, including – but by no means limited to – new jobs and increased tax revenue,” Justice John Paul Stevens wrote for the majority. He was joined by Justice Anthony Kennedy, David H. [...]

It’s Over…

23-JUN-2005 The CNN Breaking News bar is saying that the Supreme Court ruled in favor of local governments being able to seize property for economic development. We’ve just lost what little of the country was left. I can’t wait to see the breakdown of votes. If you think judicial appointments aren’t very important, you need [...]

Happy Anniversary!

23-JUN-2005 To my wife for eleven years now. She puts up with far more than she has to, and I never lose sight of that.

The Clamor You Hear…

…is the new housing boom for all the lawyers moving to Raleigh. Surgical tools washed in hydraulic fluid Somebody better have about a gahzillion dollars set aside for this. Duke Health officials declined to comment further, citing possible lawsuits. Ya think?!

Rainy Monday

I’m posting this from my local Panera as I sit in the corner and watch the world rush by. I’ve been off since Thursday when my wife had surgery (nothing serious, but quite uncomfortable). Today I got up early and came here at her urging, so I can get some writing done. I find that [...]

I’m inclined to believe him…

Crowe’s torment Not to excuse it of course, but I think he just blew his cork when he couldn’t get a working phone. Exhaustion and frustration can do strange things to the mind.

How cool is this?

A little slow…

08-JUN-2005 Someone decided today to post a comment on an old post from 10/31/2003! I reference it here because it displays all the erudition one can expect from a Leftist and a Luddite. The original author of the post was Mike J, who now posts, infrequently, at Paradigm Shift.

Deep Thoughts…

thebandwagon: Intelligent thought provoking post goes here…

Who is Deep Throat?

Who cares?! Really. I’m sure this has a valid historical significance, but I just don’t care. Like the endless retrospectives on the Kennedy Assassination, the Watergate scandal is another opportunity for Old Media to breathlessly trumpet a thirty year old ‘score’. Move on already! Kennedy is gone, Nixon is gone, and most of your credibility, [...]

New pics up…

01-JUN-2005 Here.

A guilty pleasure…

01-JUN-2005 Eisenhorn The book is going slow, but the fault is entirely mine. As I had mentioned in an earlier post, my reading time is now being consumed by redlines on my fiction, and lunch meetings with my ‘writing partner’ here at work. I’m certainly spending my time in a more productive way, but I [...]

Yes, I’ve Been Quiet

I know, I know. I never post anymore. 01-JUN-2005 And I think that is a good thing, perhaps. The Blog seemed to serve me well as an outlet when I could not seem to pursue my primary goal: creative writing. It was so much easier to wring out some posts through the day and feel [...]
